The team from EchoMe, formerly known as Emocean, with their $10,000 winning check presented by Jere Doyle from the Shea Center for Entrepreneurship.

Michael Gordon ’16, Christian Nicholson ’15, and their team won first place at the Strakosch Venture Competition in 2016, formerly known as the Shea Venture Competition. Gordon and Nicholson’s app EchoMe took home $10,000 after they placed first in the Traditional Business Track group of the competition. EchoMe, formerly known as Emocean and MusicSplitter, lets users listen to and stream music simultaneously. This app is perfect for when friends want to listen to the same tracks together but are not near each other. EchoMe had also previously won Shea’s Elevator Pitch Competition the year before and made the final five in the Atlantic Coast Conference’s inaugural ACC InVenture Competition hosted at GeorgiaTech in 2016.

EchoMe is an iOS application that allows multiple users to stream and play music on different devices in real-time. The app is especially relevant in today’s world where most of our social interaction can only occur through the internet. Whether you are working out with a friend or you simply just want to jam out to Kanye’s new album together, EchoMe is the perfect platform to do so. Currently, EchoMe boasts almost 1,500 downloads with almost 200 current users. Additionally, EchoMe is the proud recipient of over 35 awards worldwide.

Co-founders Michael Gordon and Christian Nicholson are still growing EchoMe today. They are currently still hiring people to their team and are planning on re-launching their application soon! Both co-founders are also currently working on another startup together called ZipRun. If you want to learn more about EchoMe check them out here.

In 2016, Michael and Christian entered the Strakosch Venture Competition and left with a $10,000 check to continue building EchoMe. Any BC student, undergraduate or graduate, can also do the same and win even more prize money for their own startup! There is still time to enter Start@Shea’s annual Strakosch Venture Competition. The application can be found here and if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us via our email listed below! The application is due 04/14/2020 at 11:59pm EDT.
